A real culinary favourite which can be used in a variety of ways.

Parsley is a biennial but we find it is best treated as an annual –  you can leave the plant over winter for early spring pickings before fresh plants are planted out.

Sow parsley seeds indoors in spring with multiple seeds per module or direct sow from April onwards.

Seed Story

Parsley is known as the Devil’s herb. The story goes that the seed has to travel to hell and back 9 times before it will sprout which is probably why it takes so long to germinate!

Folklore says that it grows best if the seeds are sown on Good Friday as this is when the Devil has no jurisdiction

Parsley is native to the Mediterranean region of southern Europe and western Asia and is often used as a companion plant attracting wasps and predatory insects which protect nearby plants.

Greek myth says that, parsley sprouted from the blood of Archemorus when he was eaten by serpents.

Parsley is high in vitamin C and iron. It is also a diuretic and can be useful in treating urinary infections.

It can be used in a poultice to treat wounds and insect bites as it has antiseptic properties.
