Whilst the official start of summer is a few weeks away yet, June IS the start of summer in the HOS calendar!

Summer is peak growing time so it is a busy time for us all but it is also the perfect time to pause and reflect. Take stock of how far you have come this growing season and make some growing notes. What is thriving? What might you need to change for the next season?

The most important thing though is to enjoy your kitchen garden or allotment. Celebrate and savour every single harvest!

The June box does start to look ahead a little bit. We are taking advantage of the long summer days and starting to sow the seeds for our late summer and autumn harvests.

 It can feel strange to think about summer ending, especially when it is only just getting started, but I always love this time of year in the gardening calendar. Aside from the weeds and the watering, everything starts to feel a little calmer. Window sills and kitchen tables are free from seedlings for the most part and seed sowing is a lot less frantic than it was in the Spring! It feels especially satisfying to plant out our winter squash now, knowing that they will happily ramble away over the next few months while we get excited for the lovely fruits they will produce.

Seed sowing should always be a joyful moment and that could not be truer at this time of year as we sow the seeds for the seasons that are still to come!
