White Lisbon is a reliable old favourite that can be sown right through the growing season and even sown in autumn and overwintered.

It has long green stalks with small white bulbs at the base of the plant and the flavour is spot on with just the right amount of ‘kick’.

The seeds can be direct sown from early spring through to late autumn. Early and late sowings will benefit from protection. They can also be grown in pots. The seeds should be sown successionally for a continuous harvest and can be ready to harvest in around 8 weeks!

Seed Story!

Spring onions, also known as scallions or green onions, are believed to have originated in Central Asia and have been documented in Chinese culture since 2000BC.

They are symbols of luck and prosperity and can often be found hanging above doors before the Lunar New Year.

Spring onions were regularly consumed by Roman warriors who believed they gave them strength and endurance.

Spring onions are high in fibre which is good for digestion. They have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antimicrobial properties and are popular in traditional medicines to treat respiratory illnesses such as coughs and colds.
